In 2001 Thermophore.com, a site dedicated to a popular product produced by Battle Creek Equipment, was created as an even more direct way to reach consumers seeking out that specific brand. This was the beginning of Brand Focused Retail and has laid the foundation for what Medwing is today. The Brand names have gotten bigger but the attention to detail remains the same. Today Medwing has increased its staff three times over two years and was honored in 2007 by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing businesses in the United States, 17th overall among retail businesses.
Genesis
Medwing, like many successful companies, came from humble beginnings. After many Dot Com companies failed after the internet boom of the late 90’s, Mark Winger, Medwing’s founder and CEO, saw opportunity. The power of the internet as a commerce tool was undeniable, but the high profile losses of big name dot com companies had left many wary of dealing with the internet at all. Mark Winger then decided that it was time to stop trying to convince others that the internet was a great selling vehicle in his search optimization business and begin focusing on doing it himself. Medwing was created and began by selling the products sold in the Winger family pharmacy but quickly extended into other types of products that were desirable, hard to find and that could help improve people’s lives.
Medwing continues to grow by utilizing its tested systems and by entering into new relationships with quality brands.
