ImageAircast is committed to improved medical outcomes through the use of innovative medical technologies and sound scientific methods. For over 30 years, Aircast has helped medical professionals worldwide provide functional treatment options for their patients.

Founded in the early 70's Aircast exists because of a lucky break — that's if you can call getting a segmental tibial fracture while skiing being lucky. After months in a plaster cast Glenn Johnson was on the verge of a nonunion. With no prior orthopedic training, Glenn recognized the problems, studied the literature, and developed the first off-the-shelf below-the-knee cast, an "aircast".

With aircells lining a rigid orthosis the device was comfortable to walk in, while the aircells pulsated with each step and milked out the edema. To the surprise of the surgeon, who was convinced that a bone graft was necessary, Glenn's delayed union healed. For years, Aircast's Pneumatic Walking Braces were made at home and given away to interested doctors and patients. The Aircast Walking Brace line has now expanded to include the FoamWalker, SP-Walker, and the PneumaticWalker Diabetic System.

Today, most people know Aircast because of the Air-Stirrup Ankle Brace, a semi-rigid orthosis lined with the patented Duplex™ aircell system. An article published in Contemporary Orthopaedics wrote, the Air-Stirrup "revolutionized the management of ankle injuries."

Aircast devices have been used by almost one out of every five families.
